Colors Fading

Colors Fading

It felt at first as though this autumn the colors were muted (at least where I was looking). Oh, maybe it was the rain or the lack of it or maybe it was the temperature (too cold? too hot?). Or perhaps I just hadn’t waited long enough or looked hard enough. Looking at leaves in autumn requires a bit of discipline, although it is entirely possible to enjoy them without deep thought.

Yes, it’s mostly about looking, about noticing and enjoying what’s right there in front of me. Easier said than done, at least some days. It just requires that I pay attention, not a formal and stiff sort of attention; rather a gentle and open noticing. Something as common as leaves, turning into this canvas to delight. Who would have expected that?

Instead of vistas, I delight in this array of colorful vignettes, so easy to find in the Arboretum. Go, now, enjoy!
