Two Roads

OK, we’ve been here before, the story told with more fluent words than I”m likely to find. But perhaps there’s a different take on deciding between which of the paths to follow. At least that’s my wondering…
You see, what’s easy here is that we can take both paths. Not at the same time, obviously but one after the other. After all, this is the Arboretum. Both paths follow the orchard, one lower on the hillside than the other. Yes, they are different and offer different challenges and benefits. Of course you wouldn’t know what they were until after you made your choice.
I suppose when we are at a true, meaningful crossroad (as we are in our country presently), we don’t know where the path leads and we don’t have the luxury of calling a do-over. So perhaps we’d decide to take the seemingly harder (as in, steeper) path in the hopes that it would give us a wider view of our surroundings.
One way or another, we need to sort out what we want, which way to go, and what we’re willing to sacrifice to get there. That is our work.
