Surprise

I decided to walk the Conifer Path this morning. There are lots of familiar trees there that I haven’t seen in quite some time so a visit was in order. It was a clear morning and not yet hot as I started from the Walter Street Gate.

I’m not sure who of us was more surprised, the deer or me. I had thought I’d caught a glimpse of a dog running off-lease. I didn’t think much of it until l looked up to notice this graceful beauty stock still in their tracks. We stood that way, still, ready for flight, watching, for long enough for me to get out my camera, remove the lens cap, set up and take the shot, several actually. Reminded me why I like to shoot with my phone…

This deer was wary but I think used to dodging humans, more than I was used to taking pictures of wild deer. I guess it worked out well for both of us. And I appreciate this critter’s willingness to allow me to share its home.
