Closer

When I look at an object closely, closer in, I often see things that either escaped my notice or were simply not clear from a greater distance. It seems especially the case when I’m looking at trees. Or maybe I’m just looking at trees more lately.

This is one of several old beech trees I walk by quite often. It’s clearly been around for a while. I wish I could know the reasons for the twists and turns and doubling back that are visible on the surface of this tree over its lifetime. I think I could probably spend, profitably spend, hours studying this tree, sorting out and observing how it responds to what the natural and human worlds toss its way.

Not sure I’ll do that, probably not. But I will keep looking, noticing, shooting. At the moment, beeches are high on my list, along with oaks (same family, by the way). But I’m open to whatever captures my eye…
