Concrete landscape
Much like my last entry, this image tells an imaginary story. It’s an imaginary landscape, one that is two-dimensional and is comprised of a limited number of living things. I’ve been occupied with a section of the decaying concrete retaining wall along the Mattapan Square-Ashmont trolley line.
What appeals to me? Well, I really enjoy the minor mind-bend involved in having one thing be mistaken for another. Now, I’m not saying this will look to you like a landscape beyond that initial first glance. (I’m continuing to work on this and the set of images I took to see if there’s a way to process them to intensify that feeling.) But that moment before full recognition emerges, that’s when you have the potential for viewing the world in a new, unexpected way. To me, that’s a blessed moment.
If you said this doesn’t exactly do it for you, I’d understand. I think this image remains a bit too literal to be confused for a landscape, that’s where I need to work some more. But it feels like it’s headed in the right direction.
What do you think?
