Last Ice

Marc GoldringComment

I haven’t been shooting much lately so for this post, I’ve had to go back a bit to find something worth all of us looking at. This is from late January so it’s not like it’s an antique or anything. At about that time, I did a post that featured another shot of ice - actually quite close to where this one was - and it turns out I like this one better!

There is such a range of textures in this shot - at the top, the re-freezing water and then the mostly still-frozen ice, and the the odd ice formations that are the result of the wind blowing water that then froze (at least I think that’s what happened).

In one sense this is a very simple scene, nothing wildly exotic here. And yet, such a festival of textures and subtle colors and shapes! Why, if you moved quickly, you’d not even notice it.

And that’s the reason I take these shots - to remind myself to slow down and notice what’s in front of me. It can often be as amazing as something we travelled around the world to see!
