Colorless

The photo editor of a periodical asked me for some images to include in the publication. Since they can only print in black & white, I walked through my catalog of something over 42,000 images, to decide which ones would work in black & white. This was challenging because these would not have been shot with that in mind. Still, converting to black & white is not a particularly complicated process, so I decided to try.

The shot here is one such. And I like it - sharp images, well framed. In addition, it’s one of those pond shots with the algae bloom and that does bother me. But here, without color, who’s to know?

Now, clearly, this is no solution to polluted waters, but from an esthetic point of view it eliminates that nagging feeling of enjoying something that we know is a sign of a problem.

Of course, now you know too. So, perhaps ignorance, albeit short-lived, is something like bliss…
