Sky

The sun sets early at this time of year. So it’s not hard to be out and about as it’s going down. And clearly there is good reason to do so. Jamaica Pond, indeed any reasonably large body of water, will give you an ample view of the sky as the sun is setting. It’s interesting to me that this colorful sky is in the opposite direction from where the sun has actually set.

Without too much work, I can make up a simple homily about how beauty is not necessarily found by looking straight at it (in this case, the sunset), that finding it requires openness to looking all around, sometimes even in the opposite direction from what we expect.

Truth be told the scene might well have been just as lovely, maybe even more breathtaking in that direction. But the path and the trees suggested shooting away from the sunset. So a simple suggestion might be that when you see something beautiful, turn around and see what you can see in the other direction.

Not sure it matters, but anything that helps us keep our eyes open for the small majesties that surround us is worth considering!
