Debris, White Mountains National Forest, 2018
Trekking up the mountain, much of the time my eyes were on where next I would step. While I would sometimes miss the occasional fluttering bird or scampering squirrel, I usually knew where my feet were going to be placed next. Useful information! The other benefit is that a surprisingly large number of interesting things show up on the ground, near my feet.

A case in point is this accidental assemblage. How these particular pieces came together of course I don't know. If I'd made it, I might have done it differently. But something attracted me to the way these two elements worked. It gave me something to occupy my mind as I trudged up the mountain.
